Team to fore

White Robe Lodge produced five of seven heat winners at barrier trials at Wingatui today (14/10/2014) and Swiss Alps showed readiness to resume at Ashburton on Saturday with a second placing.

Winners for WRL were Added, Coulee, Thewayiam, Avow and Include.

Swiss Alps ran on strongly for second to Avow, who led over 1000m in 1.02.96 on a slow inside grass.

Avow may resume at Gore on October 31 in a $12,000 race for fillies and mares. She won a $12,000 race for f and m fresh up at Gore 13 months ago.

Include, winner of the Dunedin and Southland Guineas last season, finished purposely to win her heat by half a length in 1.01.83, the last 600 in 37.42.

Added won an 800m maiden heat in 51.55 and Coulee (Gallant Guru - Cherry Creek) led and held on by a nose in 1.03.7 for 1000m. Thewayiam also led and won decisively by a length and a quarter in 1.03.8.

WRL could tale satisfaction from the win of pacing mare, New Years Jay at Forbury Park the previous day.  New Years Jay won by six lengths  over 2200m from a stand in 2.45.5, the last 800m in 58 after starting from 30m. Her time was 3.1sec better than King Cyril from a mobile start. New Years Jay, co-owned by Brian Anderton, had a week in the paddock at WRL after her fourth successive win on September 5 at Addington. She then had a week on the walking machine there before rejoining the Westwood stable of Amber Hoffman and Jonny Cox. New Years Jay is in the right order to extend her winning record with her immediate aim the Show Day Futurity, with an estimated stake of $40,000 at Addington  on November 14.
