Flying The Flag

The 3yr-old Raise The Flag filly Princess Brook  was successful in a $12,000 rating 65  1335m race for mares and fillies  at Gore on Thursday (22/01/2015). She also collected a $11,500 NZ Bloodstock Insurance pearl series bonus.   Raise The Flag also sired a 3rd place getter at Gore yesterday with Landales Gold.

It was a timely win on the eve of the New Zealand Bloodstock yearling sales at Karaka. WR has four of the progeny of Raise The Flag entered for the select sale (see website reference).

Princess Brook, trained by Terry Kennedy for Fred King, has been entered for the $300,000 NZ Oaks (2400m) at Trentham on March 14.

"She needs a mile or further now and we will look at a couple of races away from her age group and hopefully get her up to 2000m to decide if she will go to the Oaks,'' said Kennedy.  WR trainers Brian and Shane Anderton saddled the winners Forever Vital, Akal and Jimmytwoshoes at Gore. Stable apprentice Jacob Lowry rode Forever Vital and he won on Gunna Fly.

Akal and Gunna Fly are by WR stallion Gallant Guru, who has sired the winners of seven races in the past week. Gunna Fly won at Gore last Saturday, along with Valiant and Blue 'N' Gold and Too Cool to Fool at Morphettville (Adelaide).  Tedesco and Taniwha, two other Gallant Guru progeny, finished second and third to Akal over 2000m at Gore.

Akal, a 4yr-old gelding, is out of Megagem, a half sister by Personal Escort to Inferno and Ortem Fire.
