Great season for Gallant Guru

Gallant Guru sired the maiden winners Max and The Great Guru at Awapuni on Thursday (28/07/2016) rounding off a great season. He sired 37 individual winners of 58 races and $826,014 in stakes. Gallant Guru, the leading South Island-based sire finished seventh for individual winners in the New Zealand sires' premiership, eighth equal for races won and 17th on a stakes basis according to figures compiled by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing. Max and The Great Guru are both first foals of their dams. Max, trained by Raymond Connors, is out of Vitique (Yamanin Vital - Auburn Rose). Vitque died after Brian, Lorraine and Hec Anderton bred one further foal. The Great Guru, trained by Lisa Latta, is out of the Sandtrap mare, Greyling. Winners by Gallant Guru during the season included Coulee (group three $80,000 South Island Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes), Tommy Tucker (listed $50,000 Easter Cup at Riccarton and listed $50,000 Timaru Cup) and Heroic Guru, who won three times in Hong Kong, taking his earnings to $HK3,823,650 ($NZ697,507). Gallant Guru is again standing for $4000 at White Robe Lodge.
