Civil Disobedience nominated for New Zealand Derby

(Gallant Ruby, who is in foal to Darci Brahma)

Ballarat trainer Darren Weir has nominated the Raise The Flag 3yr-old Civil Disobedience for the $1,000,000 New Zealand Derby (2400m) at Ellerslie on March 3.

Civil Disobedience (ex Pernote), bred at White Robe Lodge, won a 1600m maiden at Bendigo at his last start on November 14 when having his fifth start.

Weir has won three races with Accreditation, a half brother by Gallant Guru to Civil Disobedience. Accreditation had his most recent win over 1700m at Warrnambool on October 20.

Civil Disobediece was $32,500 purchase by Weir and John Foote Bloodstock at the 2016 South Island sale. Accreditation was a $20,000 purchase at the same sale in in 2014

Pernote recently foaled a filly by Nadeem and she has tested positive to Ghibellines. Her other five foals have been colts.

Raise The Flag mare Etah James had her fourth win in six starts when successful in a $A60,000 race over 2300m at Ballarat on Saturday (25/11/2017). The 5yr-old daughter of Etah, trained at Ballarat by Matt Cumani began racing in April.

Madam De Soir, another daughter of Raise The Flag, won  over 2100m at Invercargill on Thursday when the White Robe Lodge stable was successful with Willow(Gallant Guru - Woodini mare)  and Taieri Gem (Gallant Guru - La Gem mare).

New Zealand Bloodstock representatives have inspected the six lots to be offered by WRL at the National Yearling sale at Karaka in January and February.

"It is one of our strongest drafts for a National sale,'' said Karen Stewart, co-manager of the stud."The colt by Ghibellines out of Inferno is a lovely individual."

He is from the first crop of his sire and the third foal of Inferno, the dual winner of the group three Canterbury Gold Cup at Riccarton. Inferno has returned home in foal to Zacinto.

The colt is in Book 1, along with a half brother by Ghibellines to Who Shot Thebarman (multiple group race winner), a half sister by that sire to Parthesia (Tasmanian Oaks) and a filly by Savabeel and the first foal of Include(a multiple stakes winner).

WRL has colts by Ghibellines out of Ali Rosa and Turn The Page in Book 2.

A total of 75 mares have foaled at WRL this spring, the most recent being Heureka, who dropped a colt by Pentire on Monday (27/11/2017)

Blue 'N' Gold (seven wins) and Norah (six) have produced colts by Darci Brahma from their first matings. Norah is in foal to Ghibellines. Cherry Creek (the dam of Coulee) has foaled a filly by Per Incanto and she is also in foal to Ghibellines.

Notable (the dam of Parthesia) has left a colt by Reliable Man. Swelter and Ignite have both produced fillies by Ghibellines. Personal Columm has a Ghibellines colt and she is back in foal to that sire.

Ears Carol, the dam of Who Shot Thebarman is in foal to Raise The Flag. Serve De Aunt, a winning half sister to Who Shot Thebarman, is in foal to Shocking. Gallant Ruby (five wins) has been retired from racing and she is in foal to Darci Brahma.

The pacing mare Delightful Jay, a winner for Brian Anderton and the estate of Bryan Kennedy at Forbury Park in March, has foaled a filly to Washington VC.  Her half sister New Years Jay (eight wins and 1.54.6 mile) is in foal to Sweet Lou. She is making a good recovery from a hind leg fracture that forced her retirement in October. She is still on box rest.
