Yearling has much in his favour

A yearling colt by Highly Recommended from Swapping being offered by White Robe Lodge at the South Island yearling sale has a lot in his favour.

He is among 11 colts the stud will offer at the New Zealand Bloodstock South Island session of yearling sales in Christchurch on April 21.

"He is an early type of horse from a running family," said Karen Stewart, co-manager of the stud with her husband, Wayne.

"He is a muscular type by a promising sire out of an Encosta de Lago mare who won as a 2yr-old."

Highly Recommended (Alister Clark Stakes) has left the winner Vishnu (Riverton, 15/4/2017) and stakes placed Joyfilly from his first crop.

The family has been represented this season by Coulee (winner of the listed South Island Breeders' Stakes for the second time) and stakes placed Sam's Image and Ducimus.

Another colt in the draft is by Raise The Flag from Stage Flash, the granddam of Coulee and News Flash (eight wins).

A colt by Raise The Flag in the draft is out of Flyby, a sister to Blood Brotha (Wellington Cup and two New Zealand Cups) and three quarter sister to Notable, the dam of Parthesia winner of the listed Tasmania Oaks this season.

"He is as nice well grown colt,'' said Karen.

A colt by Zacinto from Nancy Wake is a half-brother to five winners, including Georgey Aeroplane, who has won five races to 2400m in Australia.

''He has appeal being by Zacinto and is a nice tidy horse."

Zacinto is the sire of the 2016 New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas winer, Ugo Foscolo from his first crop.

A colt by Raise The Flag from Woodini is a half-brother to Millbank, winner of the gr 3 Red Anchor Stakes.

Gallant Guru, the sire of stakes winners Coulee, Tommy Tucker, Include and Ortem Fire is represented in the WRL draft by colts out of Enzed and Elite Street. The colt out of Enzed is a brother to Heroic Guru (a winner in Hong Kong) and ill-fated Valiant (eight wins and stakes placed).

The other colt is the second foal and first colt of Elite Street, who won an Invercargill Cup (2600m). "He is a quality colt and an eye-catching type," said Wayne Stewart, co-manager of the stud..
"The colts on offer are well grown and we like to think they will go on and win races,'' said Karen.

The other colts in the draft are by Raise The Flag - Upcloseandpersonal; Raise The Flag - Renee Maree; Raise The Flag - Star of Mulwala and Raise The Flag - Swelter.
