Best training tally for 16 years

White Robe Lodge trainers Brian and Shane Anderton reached their best training tally in 16 years after five wins at Wingatui on Friday (26/5/2017). They have had 46 wins this season.

They won with News Flash, Taieri Gem, Waylay, Satin Guru and Perceptive on a heavy track on Friday. Their best tally since Shane joined his father in 1993 is 55 wins in the 2000-01 season. They have had 881 wins in partnership. Brian has also won more than 600 races on his own or in partnership with Graeme Offen.

WRL sire Gallant Guru has maintained his position as the leading South Island-based sire for three successive seasons with an increased stakes tally to date of $893,208. Two months of the season remain.

Associate sire Raise The Flag has made his name this season with stakes winners  Parthesia (Tasmanian Oaks) and Raise You Ten (Gore Guineas) and Australian stakes placegetters, Broadside and Unfurl.

Gold Leaf, last start winner of the Great Western Hurdles, has been scratched from the hurdles at Wingatui on Sunday.

"He has a little bit of swelling on his near tendon and I did not want to risk him in heavy ground,'' said trainer Brian Anderton. "He is getting scanned on Friday."
