Gallant Guru Stud Career Off To Spectacular Start
The stud career of young White Robe Lodge stallion Gallant Guru started in spectacular style at Wingatui on Melbourne Cup Day when he sired two winners on the programme.
GOLD LEAF (3yo colt ex Cioao by Rodrigo de Triano ) showed exceptional ability to win his Maiden 1200 event on debut. Despite being slow away and subsequently last on settling, he overcame greeness in the straight to win convincingly by two lengths in a competitive field.
ORTEM FIRE ( 3yo filly ex Emerald Fire by Honor Grades ) came out a couple of races later to win her Maiden 1400m. She unwound strongly over the last furlong to put her rivals away by a length and three-quarters. Having being placed as a juvenile and in her one resuming run this campaign, her win was not unexpected. The filly is a half-sister to last season's Canterbury Gold Cup winner Inferno.
The exciting thing for the Stud is that both horses are likely to excel over more ground and they are just two of a number of pomising youngsters, both in the White Robe Lodge racing team and in stables throughout New Zealand and Australia.
