South Island Group Winner For Montjeu

Montjeu, the sire of White Robe Lodge's exciting stallion Gallant Guru, left his first Group winner in the South Island when The Meista impressively won the Canterbury Gold Cup (Gp3) at Riccarton. The classy three-year-old was taking on weight-for-age company for the first time and his comprehensive victory augured well for his prospects in the new season.

His older brother Ketamada was also an easy winner on the Premier programme, while on the same day another of the progeny of Montjeu, Fulmonti, took out the Hollindale Cup (Gp2) in Queensland.

This follows on from the phenomenal effort by the son of Sadler's Wells in siring the quinella in the recent AJC Derby in Roman Emperor and Harris Tweed.

It is worth noting that all five horses are from staying-bred mares, with all of them carrying the blood of the mighty Sir Tristram. The Meista and Ketamada are from the Zabeel mare Zablinka, Fulmonti is from the Grosvenor mare Grosvenor's Pride, while the first two home in the AJC Derby are both from grand-daughters of Grosvenor.

White Robe Lodge have a number of  well-performed daughters of one of their other resident sires Yamanin Vital ( a son of Sir Tristram ) either with foals at foot or in-foal to Gallant Guru.
