Raise The Flag's progeny to the fore

Broadside, the son of Raise The Flag, won a $A108,000 rating 83 2000m race at Randwick on Saturday (9/10/2016). It was his second win in three starts since joining the stable of Gai Waterhouse and  Adrian Bott. Broadside won twice from three starts in New Zealand.

The maiden win of Londonderry Air at Winton on Sunday was a "feather in the cap" of White Robe Lodge trainers Brian and Shane Anderton and stable apprentice Jacob Lowry.  The 5yr-old Raise The Flag- Rubiette gelding was having his first start for the stable after eight starts in the lower North Island for a third and a fourth. He had not raced for three months. Londonderry Air, a half-brother to 2015 NZ Grand National Steeplechase winner, High Forty, was bred at WRL and sold for $15,000 to New Plymouth owner-trainer Ilone Kelly at the 2013 South Island sale.

"Ilone got in touch with Wayne (Stewart, WRL stud manager) and said she did not wish to carry on with Londonderry Air so we arranged a group to lease him for jumping,'' said Brian. " He jumps brilliantly but I wanted to give him a flat race or two before he goes for a spell."

Londonderry Air is now in the ownership of Brian and Lorraine Anderton, the Diamond syndicate, Ron and Jennifer Williamson, of Twizel; Henry and Gabby Williamson, of Omarama, Terry Burke, of Tamworth, Ian Nichol, of Outram and Ray Kean, of Mosgiel. It was the first winning experience for Gabby. She is the wife of Henry, who is a son of Ron, a long time jumping enthusiast. Ron is in the ownership of Gold Leaf, a hurdle winner for the WRL stable at Wingatui in June. Ron raced Boroma (1996-97 Otago Steeplechase) and Cee Gee Jay (2012 Otago Hurdles), both trained by Brian and Shane. Ron and Henry are also in the ownership of Residential, a 3yr-old filly who cleared maiden ranks at Riccarton on October 1 from the John and Karen Parsons stable.

Somethings Burning, the son of Gallant Guru - Diamonds On Fire, posted his sixth win on Friday at Washdyke when back in blinkers. Passed in for $3000 as a yearling at the 2011 South Island Sale, Somethings Burning has now amassed $54,000 in stakes from the Rangiora stable of Steven Woodsford.
